About 8 in 10 of us will experience back or neck pain at some point in our lives, and for some, it can be severe, debilitating and reoccurring. It’s our body’s core, after all.
So when the muscles and nerves near the spine are pinched, pulled or twisted, the pain and discomfort can make it difficult to get up – let alone work and do the things we love.
Experts in spine health and getting clients back to their everyday lives, our Physical Therapy team focuses not just on treating the pain or discomfort but determining and treating the cause.
We treat a variety of conditions related to cervical and lumbar spine rehabilitation. Here are some common ones:
Cervical Spine Conditions:
- Cervical Radiculopathy: Nerve compression in the neck causing pain, numbness, and weakness in the arms.
- Cervical Spondylosis: Degenerative changes in the cervical spine, leading to pain and stiffness.
- Cervical Disc Herniation: Displacement of the intervertebral disc in the neck, causing nerve compression.
- Whiplash: Neck injury due to sudden movement, often from car accidents.
- Cervical Myelopathy: Compression of the spinal cord in the neck, leading to neurological symptoms.
Lumbar Spine Conditions:
- Lumbar Radiculopathy: Nerve compression in the lower back causing pain, numbness, and weakness in the legs.
- Lumbar Disc Herniation: Displacement of the intervertebral disc in the lower back, causing nerve compression.
- Lumbar Spondylosis: Degenerative changes in the lumbar spine, leading to pain and stiffness.
- Sciatica: Pain radiating along the sciatic nerve, often due to lumbar disc herniation.
- Sacroiliitis: Inflammation of the sacroiliac joints, causing lower back and buttock pain.
- Spondylolisthesis: Slippage of one vertebra over another, causing lower back pain and nerve compression.
These conditions are often treated with a combination of exercises, manual therapy, aquatic therapy, traction, education on posture and body mechanics, and modalities such as heat and cold therapy to manage pain and improve function.
